Western Spaghetti & Mouldy Bread

Aside from news of the thousand-man-long-queue at AIA yesterday, 2 things caught my eye today from my usual surf reads:

This wonderful stop motion film. Great execution, great sound and great ideas (post-its as butter! Who would’ve thought?)!

And an interesting innovation to the ziplock bag…

…for preventing lunch thefts.

Have a great wednesday!

Wish List!

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking for an online wish list site that I can subscribe to, to add as a feature on this blog. I thought it’ll come into handy one day should anyone be feeling generous and stumble upon here. After many sign ups, and god knows how many spam emails I’ll receive for that, I finally found a site that’s user-friendly, functional and more importantly, has a cute name!

www.boxedup.com allows users to create lists with products from anywhere on the web, and share them with friends on blogs or online social networks. You can create more than 1 list and display them as flash boxes or simple lists through rss feeds like what I have here (I’d prefer the flash box, but can’t figure out how to do it. Let me know if you do!).

You can add comments and even the price to the products! If you hover your mouse over each item, you can see my description of them, and eventually decide if you’d like to get it for me. ;-) If you’re unable to view it somehow, here’s a direct link to my wish list with pictures and all!

I urge you to get one too and never get an unwanted present again! Well, but like the old saying goes, you can’t like your present and be surprised by it too. Oh wait, that’s not how it went, but you get my drift.

Yearbook of UG

In every school, we are sure to have the following:

The Golden Couple - Envied by the common people and touted to have the best looking kids.

The Hippies – Stoned out and hardly in the sun, resulting in really fair skin.

The Smarties – Intellectual, approachable and harmless (until they become the superpowers of the corporate world).

The Teachers – Way too young, not to mention hot, sends temperature soaring and academics results fluctuating.

And last but not least,

The Clown Triplets – Uncanny resemblance, freaking funny and has the best taste in women.

Note to self: Boyfriend’s photo hardest to find. Must take more normal pictures.

WALL•E – A Space Journey into Sound

For those of you who’ve recently watched WALL•E and loved it, this was how the sound design was done! Junk does wonders for sound!

I’ve been averaging a blogpost daily, and seriously, I’m trying hard not to exceed that ‘lest I start looking like a bummer. Oh but wait, I am a bummer. But not for long though. Big moves are coming at work and I should appreciate my ‘vacation’ now.

Just so you know, I’m going to get real busy by the end of this year (deja vu 2007), so please exclude me from any christmas or new year plans but keep me on your gift list!

It only takes a spark.

What do you do when you find hope in a situation that everyone seems to have long given up on?

That’s right! You presevere. Why give up now? You can always give up later! Okay, that’s bad advice.

I feel like the only beam in a blackout and I cross my fingers that song rings true…

The McGurk Effect

Instructions:
Watch this video once, what is he saying?
Now play the video again, this time with your eyes closed. What is he saying now?

According to Wikipedia, the McGurk effect is a “perceptual phenomenon which demonstrates an interaction between hearing and vision in speech perception”. Meaning, we use more than one sense (hearing) to decipher speech. This may not be important for most of us, but will be crucial for voice dubbing or ADR.

Now we know why ADR sometimes just looks so weird.

*Update: The video works on youtube, but not on my page. Anyone knows why? I changed it to another URL anyway. I hope it works now!

Hello world!

This is where I’ll be sharing information about the world – useful, funny, interesting – or not – and snippets of my life from now on. For friends who hardly meet up with me, please don’t take this as a representation of what I do. Believe me, I do much less!

Stay tune!
